Shed Hunting

Erich and I thought we would take advantage of the warm streak of weather and switch from snow sports to good ol' hiking. We took a couple of days last week and hiked up the riverbreaks in search of elk/deer sheds. The terrain here is so crazy, it is insanely steep right off the river and then you break out on top and hit these big basins and gently sloping ridges. It's so beautiful on top with lots of great views. We only found one 5 point deer antler but we sure had a good time ...UNTIL I saw a tick on Erich. I am petrified of ticks so that took a little, no make that a LOT of the fun out of it but thankfully there were none on Jacob and we caught all of the ones on us before they had time to burrow in. Anyone else feeling itchy right now?!?

Do you remember the time we went hiking in highschool (I think it was kinda by missoula maybe.....) and we found about 10 ticks on each of us? The hike was so cool and I took a bajillion pictures, but on the way home we were freaking out and jumping out of the car and running around................ like that was gonna get the ticks off.......... anyway, your post brought back funny memories. By the way- Jake is the cutest little guy. Every picture you post he just gets cuter and cuter.

I remember that incident all too well...and it was actually 17 ticks not 10! Since that hike I am leery to ever sit down when hiking in the Spring, I just thought we were pre-tick season right now. Unfortunately I was wrong! Thanks for the Jake compliment. We kindof think he's cute too.

ticks are disgusting, but seeing that Ace has survived tons of them makes me less freaked out about them though. looks like Jacob has mastered sitting up congrats for him!! it's beautiful up there, it sure makes me miss Idaho.

We have only seen one tick so far here in NM but that quickly ruined our picnic that day. Morgan is also terrified of ticks after she had one burrow into her in Oregon. Too bad that you only got one deer horn (picture???) but at least you are out there. We got blasted with more snow last night...i don't think I will get out until mid April.

You guys are always doing fun stuff. I am so jealous. Do you just put Jake in a back pack? I have never even seen a tick. I guess I need to go hiking more.

Between your ticks and the bed bug segment on the Today show, I'm going to be itchy and squimish for weeks.
