Bad days for the new dad

So remember a few posts ago when I told you all that Erich had a motorcycle accident. Well it was a little worse than we initially thought. Erich fully tore his ACL and partially tore his PCL, so he went in last Wednesday for knee surgery. They took a piece of his hamstring out and used it to replace the damaged tissue. It's pretty crazy, they had him in and out of the surgery center in less than 6 hours....gotta love modern medicine. So anyhow our update for the week is that the Gleckler house has returned to its gimp house status.
Jake is still growing like crazy. No real smiles yet but he's getting more and more alert and interactive.
In between taking care of my boys I've been trying to get myself back into shape, a bit of a process I am discovering.

(Before heading into surgery Erich hit the duck hunting hard, this pic is from the morning before surgery, unfortunately there were not many ducks but at least Erich got to initiate his new gun)

(I am posting this pic so you can tell how big he's getting)

(I try to get out and take Jake for a walk everyday. It's been awesome with this amazing fall weather that we are having. Jake usually gets all snuggly and falls asleep as in the pic above)

(Even with surgery Erich is a great helper. He and Jake love to cuddle)

(I tried hard to keep Jake to avoid it, but Jake has fallen in love his pacifier. I would love to hear whether you experienced mothers let your kids have binkies or not, and if so how/when you got them off of them. Jake will cry and cry and cry until you give him his binky and then he'll be as content as can be.)

Your baby is getting so big. He is so cute. I wouldn't worry about the binky too much. I always justify it because they say it decresses the chance of SIDS. I was always worry about little stuff like that. Both of my kids had a binky. Cannon only had his for a little while, thats because he got rid of it on his own. Karlee had until right before she turned two, but thats because she was a lot more fussy and thats they only way I could get things done. No long term effects with my kids. I say if it comforts him, let him have it.

Sounds like you are taking good care of your boys. Glad to see that you added Jake to the blot title too. Take care up there in the North.

Agree with the binki comment. I wish my kids would take them, but around 3 months they usually reject them. Grace is doing good now but we'll see if she continues. If they don't use the binki, they usually find some form of comfort sucking, fingers, blankey. My sister in-law's doctor told her they don't cause damage until around age 4. He said the best time to get rid of them is by age 3 months of 3 years.

Wow you are a super woman, what with Erich's knee surgery and taking care of your little man. Very impressed you take a walk everyday. Wish I could do that. Jake is getting so big! It is so sad how fast they grow! Oh yeah, tell Erich I'm impressed he changes dirty diapers. I'm sure he is such a fun dad.

Lucy still has her pacifier! I don't care what other people think. If they are happy with it and it makes your day a little easier, go for it! You have bigger battles to fight!

Erich, I hope your recovery is going well - I had been meaning to call to see when it was, but I "mean" to do a lot of things. Kara, as for the binky, Morgan is all about it, I personally have my reservations but I do use it - but try to stay way when possible. Moderation in all things right?-)

Funny you should ask. Liesel is on her second day of NO BINKY!!! She has screamed herself to sleep both nights but she's survived.
If you think binkies are going to be bad to break him of then be sure to not let him get a hold of his thumb. Hannah is 4 and we still can't get her to stop sucking her thumb. The binkie is definetly the better of two evils!!!

I would rather have a binky that you can take away after a while than a thumb or finger that is connected. I have made it a rule that around the house Lilli doesn't get it, Only at bedtime, or out in public and she is being loud. Some days its just easier to give in. Better for your sanity
